In a blog post, Google has warned web site operators to make sure their sites are mobile friendly, lest they risk getting a lower Google search ranking from mobile searches, which could affect their ability to attract visitors.
To make it easy to know if a site is compliant, Google has created an online “mobile friendly test site.”
Some of the criteria used to determine whether a site will pass that tests includes:
- Avoids software that is not common on mobile devices, like Flash
- Uses text that is readable without zooming
- Sizes content to the screen so users don’t have to scroll horizontally or zoom
- Places links far enough apart so that the correct one can be easily tapped
This site, LarrysWorld.com, failed the test when I ran the analysis this morning so I hastily updated its WordPress theme, which made it immediately compliant.
