Flying cars could be lifting off soon

Bell Air Taxi

Anil Nanduri, general manager of Intel’s drone group, told CNET’s Stephen Shankland that “There will definitely be flights with flying cars in five years. At scale? Probably not. But definitely you’ll see them starting to be up in the sky.”

And he’s not alone. Uber and helicopter maker Bell are working on a flying taxi, slated to be launched sometime in the next decade and Lyft is said to be exploring similar technology.

But lest you think flying cars are a novel idea, harken back to The Bob Cummings Show which appeared on CBS during 1961 and 1962. The star of the show drove a real flying car called the Aerocar, which was capable of morphing from a car to a plane. First designed in 1949 there were six prototypes built but it never sent into full production, according to its Wikipedia page.
