(Berlin) Lenovo introduced a new Android tablet with an optional keyboard/docking station that also extends its battery life to 20 hours, according to Lenovo spokesperson Thilo Huys. Scroll down for a video of Mr. Hoys demonstrating the tablet and keyboard dock.
The Ideatab S2110A has a 10-inch screen, weighs 1.27 pounds and is .34 inches thick. It’s equipped with a micro-HDMI port that, according to Lenovo, enables 1080p viewing when connected to an HDTV.
It’s equipped with a 5 megapixel rear facing camera and a 1.3 Mp front facing camera. It comes with 1 GB of memory and has an SD card reader and USB port for external devices.
It runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich, not the latest (Jelly Bean) version of Android.
The price wasn’t announced.
Keyboards not going away
The Lenovo announcement is one more example of the trend towards equipping tablets with keyboards. Microsoft earlier this year announced its Surface tablet with an optional keyboard dock. Apple doesn’t provide its own keyboard dock for the iPad but there are a number of third party solutions, including cases that add keyboards to Apple’s popular tablet. The reality is that there are still plenty of people who prefer physical keyboards to typing on glass.
Although this Android tablet is not positioned as a full-blown replacement for a laptop computer, it is an option for touch typists and others who want to use the device for writing and taking notes.
More new Android tablets
Lenovo also announced two new Android tablets, the 7-inch A2107A and the 9-inch A2109A. The A2107A has two speakers, a micro-SD card, Bluetooth 4.0, a built-in FM radio, 720p HD resolution, and up to ten hours of active use, according to Lenovo.
The 9-inch model has a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 CPU and graphics card and a 1280 by 800 display.
