It’s been possible for awhile to run some apps in the background on an iPhone and other iOS devices but with iOS 7, Apple extended that privilege to a broader range of apps. That can be good news — if you want an app downloading the latest stock prices, weather or other information or processing or sending out data or tracking your location while it’s not in the foreground, but it can also wreak havoc on battery life.
