In a case of “can’t beat em, join em,” Microsoft is using the open source version of Google Chromium (the code basis for the Google Chrome browser) in its new version of Edge — the browser built into Windows 10. The new Edge also works with Macs and older versions of Windows as well as iOS and Android.
You can download the new Edge here or wait till it comes as part of an automatic Windows update.
Basing Edge on Chrome, says CNET, resolves compatibility issues. Chrome accounts for an estimated 64% of web activity, so being compatible with Chrome is a big plus.
“The new Microsoft Edge provides world class performance with more privacy, more productivity and more value while you browse,” wrote Joe Belfiore, Microsoft Corporate Vice President, Windows.
One new feature allows you to choose a new tab page layout or design, and select the types of news you want.
